As an accredited clean energy council solar & battery installers, we have been getting a lot of questions about how solar rebates are decreasing. Before we answer this burning question, it is first helpful if we understand how this government scheme is incentivising Australian homeowners & business join the renewable energy revolution!
Australia’s “solar rebate” is delivered under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), and it has a value that varies with market conditions. This makes STCs often an up front discount from advertised prices for solar power systems . The best way to think of what Australia offers are not really rebates but simply called such because they represent one less cost you have when installing your home’s new energy source!
The number of STCs a system is eligible for depends on a few variables:
Solar panel capacity (not inverter capacity), geographic location, year installed and the SRES deeming period. The final year’s multiplier will decrease by one each January 1 until 2030.
